For many people this is a hard time of the year. Weather-wise, the winters in western Oregon can be rather bleak with little sunshine. Also, the amount of daylight hours keeps shrinking until March. Emotionally speaking, things like loneliness, feeling disconnected, and anxiety become more acute and affect greater numbers of people from Thanksgiving on through Christmas and the New Year than at other times.
We aren’t perfect people at Calvary Lutheran Church. Far from it. Nor do we have all of the answers to life’s riddles and losses. But we do offer an experience of Christian community. While Jesus never promised trouble free lives to his followers, we are encouraged that God was not content to remain distant from us. Rather, He came into our space and time in the person of Jesus of Nazareth so that we do not need to bear our troubles or burdens alone. Jesus is our Emanuel which means “God with us.” And he blesses us with gifts of community and connection to himself and to one another. Please accept this invitation to visit us. We will welcome you.
We are located at 198 Fern Ridge Road in Stayton, Oregon. Worship times: 9am and 10:30am every Sunday morning.
